15th Century High Status Lady's Gown
Made in a
green coloured imitation silk damask fabric, lined
in black imitation silk that turns back at the collar and cuffs; the
sleeves are decoraded with hand sewn small blue glass beads and gold
coloured spangles. (Spangles, now called
sequins, are regarded to be one of the oldest forms embelishment.
Gold and silver were beaten to a foil then various shapes were cut from
the foil and sewn on to garments to make them sparkle).
